Shoppers’ Stop, HyperCITY sign MoU with UK’s Home Retail

As reported earlier, K Raheja owned Shoppers’ Stop and HyperCity have signed an MOU to develop the Argos retail format stores in India. Argos is among the leading general merchandise retailers in the UK and Ireland which operates a unique format of catalogue stores, along with home shopping and online retail. Shoppers Stop MD BS Nagesh said, “This unique retail format of Argos is particularly suited to the urban, densely populated areas, where retail space is expensive and limited in supply. The catalogue is a popular non-store format, which offers the convenience of studying the contents and then placing orders.

AS Watson not to enter India until 51% retail FDI allowed

As reported earlier, Hong Kong-based retailer AS Watson, part of Hutchison Whampoa, won’t enter India unless the government allows 51% FDI in retail. The Li Ka shing-owned multi-brand retailer operates across segments, including health & beauty, food & grocery, electronics and airport retail. “We are waiting for FDI in retail to be allowed in India as we would like to hold at least 51% equity in our India operations. The franchisee route is not for us,” Watsons Personal Care MD Krish Iyer, who is on a India visit currently, told ET.

More Crocodile retail stores planned

The Coimbatore-based Crocodile garments brand retailer in India, inaugurated its third company-owned Crocodile retail store.The company plans to roll out seven company-owned `The Crocodile Store’ across the country before April in places such as Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.

Aditya Birla Retail’s HR chief may exit soon

Aditya Birla Retail’s HR head Vijay Kashyap is learnt to be on his way out, even before the group opened its first store in the country. Mr Kashyap’s exit comes six months after he was poached from Shoppers’ Stop where he was customer care associate and VP-HR.
