Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman and CEO, Bharti Enterprises, was elected the President of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for the year 2007-08. He will charge of the office today from the incumbent CII President, R Seshasayee, Managing Director, Ashok Leyland.
Sunil Bharti Mittal, who owns the country’s biggest private telecom enterprise, has recently entered into an MOU with the world’s biggest business and retail enterprise Wal-Mart. He also has interests in insurance and contract farming sectors.
Apart from being the CII Vice-President during 2006-07, Mittal was the Co-Chairman of the World Economic Forum in 2007. He is also a member of the Prime Minister’s Council on Trade and Industry.
Sunil Bharti Mittal, as the Chief of the CII, is expected to devote his energies on giving shape to the current year’s CCII theme of ‘Building people, Building India.’
