Bob Eckert, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Mattel, which in recent weeks, has recalled millions of Chinese made toys from retail stores worldwide, including India, on concerns of safety, in a massive public relations exercise, has posted a video message to assuage the feelings of children’s parents, on the on the company’s website.
While apologising and conveying concerns for the recent recall, he has assured them of significant actions having already been taken to further ensure the safety of his company’s toys.
“Many of us at Mattel are parents ourselves. And like you, we know that nothing is more important than the safety of our children. As you may know, Mattel has recently voluntarily recalled some products for two different reasons: impermissible use of lead paint and risks associated with small, high-powered magnets. We have already taken significant actions to further,” he said in the message.
In a related development, the owner of a Chinese toy factory which made the recalled lead-tainted toys, according to Chinese officials, committed suicide on Saturday afternoon, reports AP. Dishonored officials commonly commit suicide, says the report.
