The Government of India is looking at allocating Rs. 1,500 crore as grant for establishing 30 fully integrated mega Food Parks, five of which will be set up in the first phase, said Subodh Kant, Union Minister of State for Food and Processing Industry. He was speaking to Thomson Financial News on the sidelines of the India Retail Forum.
These parks will be fully backward and forward integrated and will cater to all the necessary requirements of the food industry including procurement, processing and distribution of finished products, he added.
These parks to be set up under public private partnership during the eleventh five year plan period will address processing and supply chain concerns of the food retail industry.
A committee has been set up to identify land for five parks which will come up in the first phase.
