Star Bazaar, the hypermarket format retail chain of Trent Ltd, one of the two retailing arms of Tata group has launched its second 50,000 sq.ft. hypermarket store in Dahisar suburb of Mumbai.
The first hypermarket store “Star Bazaar,” which believes in providing an ample assortment of products at the lowest prices, exemplifying its ‘Chota Budget, Lambi Shopping’ motto, was set up in Ahmedabad in 2004.
The Mumbai store beside stocking an array of product categories including garments, foods, beverages, health and beauty products, vegetables, fruits, dairy products, consumer electronics and household items will also offer non-vegetarian food and feature a live bakery.
Trent has planned to open its third hypermarket in Bangalore by November, 2007. This will be followed by another in Mumbai by this year end. The company in the next three years (2009-10) has planned to set up 25 Star Bazaars hypermarkets in the top 15 to 20 cities across the country.
Star Bazaar offers a variety of garments, sourced from different parts of the country, under number of private labels. Among others, they include, Edward, France Giovanni, Spike and Fashion Street (mens wear), Navya (ethnic wear) and Tammy (kids wear). Trent has found selling garments, staples, or other categories under private labels to be profitable for the company.
“Our own labels are doing well which I think is mainly because we are able to customise to our audience’s needs. Going forward, we will look at increasing the mix in our in-house labels,” said Neeti Chopra, Marketing Head, Trent.
‘Westside’ lifestyle retail chain and ‘Landmark’ books and leisure retail chain are two other retail formats owned and operated by the company. Trent was founded in 1998 by Ms. Simone Tata, mother of its present Managing Director Noel Tata.

I had visited the star bazaar in mumbai,Andheri-w, for the first time on 25th Jan along with my family. After purchasing the necessary items we went in to collect the bag at the baggage counter, where we were told that somebody else had flicked our belongings. After speaking to the lady at the counter we came to know that she had jumbled up the bags and hence had given our bags to sombody else and much more happenings which was already told and given in writting. After which we were told that the authorities would contact us in next 24 hrs. When we received no news about the bags or the so-called authorities, we went personally trice to star bazaar. but everytime time we were told that someone would contact us in next 24hrs or to come at 13.00hrs to speak to the manager. Today is 02 feb and there is still no news about the belongings. Do the staff / authorities work like this? in such irresponsible manner? when we told the estimate cost of the belongings we were tld by the manager to supply the bills of the said items. Is’nt it funny? how can a person keep bills of each and everyting he/she purchases for two years? and how we were supposed to know that the personnel at Star would be so much irresponsible? We have been many a times to D-mart, Nirmal lifestyle, Big bazaar but never such a thing has happened. Anyway we are still waiting for the authorities of star bazaar to give a decent reply. And a word of advise to customers be reponsible for your own things rather to depend on the satff at the baggage counter.

I like to buy things from Star Bazar and find very honest and reasonable in deals. But, many times we don,t get coupons with credit card statement.
Staff and supervisors are also very polite and very attentive.
One suggestion, that they should send information to regular customers about schemes.
Good.

on 18th April when i went to Star Bazaar at Thakur Shopping Mall, Near Dahisar Toll Naka, Dahisar (East), Mumbai- 400 068 i had a very bad experience in Star Bazaar.
one of the security guard named Mr. D.N.Singh assaulted my younger brother in the name of his doubt that my brother has stolen a five rupees cadbury.
inspite of showing him the bill that was paid for the cadbury which my brother purchased from Staar Bazaar, he took my brother without informing us (parents, manager, manager of security) he took my brother in a private room where there was no C.C TV Camera and removed the clothes of my brother and ill-treated him.
but i didnt tolerate this injustice done, i lodged an FIR agaianst the Security guard of the renowned Staar Bazaar and finally he got arrested today itself…….
” SO NEXT TIME BE AWARE WHEN YOU GO TO STAAR BAZAAR WITH YOUR KIDS”

I am a resident of Mumbai and fell in love with Star Bazaar in Bangalore where I went to study one year ago. Since I discovered STAR BAZAAR, Koramangala Bangalore, in June 2008, I have been a Loyal shopper there.
I was overjoyed to find out that Star exists in Mumbai too. Three cheers for star Bazaar.
I just have one question…. What benefit do I get on My star Bazaar membership card?? and Is my card valid in Mumbai since i got it in Bangalore??

May 21, I am a software developer working with Denver based Web Solutions Company. I recently had a very bad experience at Star Bazaar Andheri. My family came to visit Mumbai after years. I took then to show Malls, preferred choice Star Mall in Andheri because nearest to my house and we do almost all household shopping there. At first, we looked around on 1st floor. I was looking into gents clothing section, My mom and sister looks around thing and took just a nineteen rupees earing. We moved downstairs and my sister told me she took earing, she didn’t knew it was to be paid upward. I said you keep earings with yourself right now, will pay before exit counter. She kept in her pocket because we were not carrying any bag that time. After having some snacks and pastries at food corner we purchased vegetables. We made payment at counter and forgot to pay Rs. 19 earing and passed 2-3 step out. And suddenly beeped, I hardly could understand 3-4 men came towards me checking bags. I realized about earing and and said ‘ohh we forgot to pay for it’. No one was talking to us as if we had done some greatest crime. After 5 minutes a man comes and takes me into private room. That was bizarre moment of my life.. I never knew I was going to be treated hell ill and abused by them. I tried to explain things but they never attended me. He bluntly said you have to pay 10 times more than what the product cost. I just asked, why? It was genuine mistake, definitely not a theft. They were blabbering weird and accusing me for stealing. It was most disgusting moment by then. I was feeling like I am getting puked on me as if they were waiting for someone already. I asked them, where is the policy, where it is written for paying 10 times more. I heard, Blunt no. we do not show policy. It’s illogical to pay without seeing policy so I decided not to pay 10 times. They got really violent and started threatening me and telling me to put in jail. I just laughed in my mind, for Rs. 19 thy will put me in jail. Well soon I realized it was no point talking to them. I just paid 10 times more and came out.. I saw my face of my mom and sister. They were scared like hell and crying. I felt deeply bad. I should have just given them the money soon. They never even gave me the receipt so I know basically goes into their pocket. After being a genuine customer for more than a year, I experience a hell ride. I hope it doesn’t happen to you. Whenever I think about that I just feel burning in my heart.
Our Comment:
In normal course, we would not have published this mail as there is a very thin line that separates ‘good’ intention with ‘malafied’ intention. We are publishing this mail as on the face of it, it appears genuine (though that alone is not sufficient) but because the customer was not shown the rule-book, if there was any, and the money was collected without issuing a receipt. The management can, perhaps, initiate an inquiry to ascertain truth behind the complaint.

great place, one stop shop, never shopped anywhere else since the opening of star bazaar…
only concern i haveis usage of all the plastic bags would recommend to use alternate method of use of paper bags or jute bags for the sake of environment

yours is one of the best hypermarkets.
good products and good offers.
vegetables and fruits are very nice. pl refill special priced shelves like potato, onion and tomatos more frequently and clean the left over bad products. need much bigger shelves for it
there is unnecessary Q for payment on fresh meats/ backery, payment must be accepted only at one final checking out counter.
can you pl give the locations where your new outlets will be opened?

12/sept/09 – I had been to Star Bazaar at Andheri west alongwith my hubby (being reliance fresh outlet closed which is nearby) & we had very good experience. We had a feeling as if we were shopping out of India. Atmosphere was good but just few points if it will be considered…
Internal Staff & security guards needs to be more co-operative & little educated in order to understand customer needs & lauguage.
1) felt all products are placed way too long. I mean we took 20 mins. to paas from soaps, detergent , shampoos etc. section. 2) Payment counter/section must be only one. 3) delivery time must be reduced from 48 hrs. to max. 12 hrs. 4) Should have small baggage section near parking lot (at basement) as well.
5) Grocery prices must be more competitive (low). 6) should have small fun zone (music, dance, games etc. ) for kids either on sundays, vacations or special holidays 7) If possible can we have complete list of items sold.
9) Food section was too good but can we have chinese counters such as noodle bar, dosas etc…
Overall the business is too big to handle with ease but Tata’s are doing it very well. I think they don’t do all things always only for monetary profit but feels that they want to return something to society. Great Tata’s.

This is for Nilesh Yadav. How come you can be so negligent and casual despite the fact that you have lived in USA? You should have been more careful to advice your sister properly. Don’t know your sister’s age, but if she were old enough, she should not have put earrings in her pocket. They can not read people’s minds and intentions, and your status is irrelevant. Unfortunately you guys were responsible for what happened.

Hi – Can someone please advise on how good the food at this shop is, in particular how fresh the meat, food and dairy is? We are thinking of moving to Mumbai and it would be nice to know what supermarkets are good. I assume that you can take the food home with you rather than having it delivered. Thanks

@Ajit Kulkarni
I understand that their is very thin line that separates intentions!!! However we all do forget !!
The point was not that they made a mistake or not [they did it and even paid for it]. The point he was trying to highlight was a FRAUD !! that Star bazaar management did..! being a Tata Employee they are doing so..
I understand that they are trying to stop pilferage in their store but an acknowledgment on paper should be their.. Read the main point Mr Ajit Kulkarni you were simply not asked who was responsible. And in case you are doing so judge both the parties
Being strict and doing whats suppose to be done is one thing but being rude and loud making is a different story all together. May be their management allows them to do so but we don’t expect a store to be loud if they want us back. For Rs. 19 i think they have lost their customer, and I am sure Mr Yadhav or his family will find it difficult to go Star..
Just an eg-
Suppose your kid picks some thing worth 100/200 tomorrow and just think the money you are going to shell out !!!
Regards
