Wal-Mart took 30 years to employ one million people, Reliance will take just 4 years to do that!

If Reliance is able to achieve the milestone it has set for itself, either the sector will have to revise its projection of two million jobs in the next four years upwards, or Reliance alone would have employed 50% of the new recruits.

Wal-Mart took 30 years to reach one million mark in terms of its personnel strength. Reliance, however, is set to achieve that milestone in just four years, says an IANS report.

“We will be having a million people working for us within the next four years. What took Wal-Mart to achieve in 30 years, Mukesh Ambani plans to do that in four years,” said Susan Bloch, chief culture officer, Reliance Retail, while speaking at the Fortune Global Forum in New Delhi.

The Fortune Global Forum, which brings the world’s top industry leaders together, is being held in India for the first time.

Reliance Retail, retailing arm of India’s largest industrial conglomerate, Reliance group, the market capitalisation of which has already exceeded Rs. Five lakh crore, is investing Rs. 25,000 crore in creating retail infrastructure for the group across the country.

It is about to complete one year since it rolled out its first retail store on 3rd November, 2007, in Hyderabad. Notwithstanding strident opposition to its retail foray, the company has already set up over 320 ‘Fresh’ stores in different parts of the country. It has also begun rolling out hypermarket and speciality format chains across the country.

You know somehow the comparison is not like to like. For one thing there is no comparison between the population of US and India.
There are other factors involved too.
