Munjals enter retail segment with a lifestyle chain; launches ‘OMA’ home products store in Delhi

November 22nd, 2007 · No Comments

“OMA offers Indian home makers elements of refined living that they have so far painstakingly shopped from abroad and then lugged it all the way back home. Now they can get the same perfection in their own country/city.” — Pankaj Munjal, Managing Director, Hero Motors.

Munjals of the Hero group have finally taken the plunge to foray into the fast growing business of organised retail. They have been mulling entering this segment for quite some time.

Munjals on Tuesday launched ‘OMA’ — a retail chain of home design products stores– in the country’s most expensive retail locality of Khan market in Delhi. The second ‘OMA’ store is planned to be rolled out in the upmarket locality of Saket in the capital, reports PTI.

The OMA store stocks an awesome collection of home décor products like china clay, fine porcelain, silver and glass ware, bath and spa accessories, and decorative candles. While, most of these have been imported from Europe, OMA also stocks home decor products made in Muradabad, among others.

The group has planned to roll out 16 to 18 ‘OMA’ stores across the country this year. This will entail an investment outlay of Rs 42 crore. Initially, all the stores will be company owned.

Munjals have partnered with Gagan and Rohini Khosla of Stalwart Homestyles, for this venture. Stalwart Homestyles supplies home products to international retail chains like Crate & Barrel, Habitat, and Bloomingdales.

“We sensed a great vacuum in this segment that needed a corporate-driven, luxury-oriented home decor brand.” says Pankaj Munjal, MD of Hero Motors.

“Our USP is that we have a very good sourcing and wares are very reasonably priced. We have got a fantastic response from the visitors, architects, designers,” said Charu Mujal, one of the promoters.
