10″ long scorpion stings a young shopper at Wal-Mart!

May 28th, 2008 · No Comments

This is not the first incident of its kind at Wal-Mart. Eight more such incidents are reported to have taken place at Wal-Mart stores since 1987.

Megan Templeton, a 12-year-old girl shopper from Barboursville, had a harrowing time when she recently went shopping at a Wal-Mart store in West Virginia (US). She was stung by a 10″ long scorpion, while shopping for fruits.

The Scorpion, perhaps, got stowed away in a shipment from Mexico.

Megan, who was picking up a seedless watermelon from a bin in the store, had to be taken to a hospital after the sting. The injury, however, was not serious and Megan was released later.

William Templeton, her father, initially didn’t believe his daughter when she said she had been stung by a scorpion, however, he had to when he saw the creature scurrying around underneath a box.

According to store employees, the problem was with a single shipment of watermelons, said Richard Coyle, Senior Director, International Affairs, Wal-Mart. The scorpion was later captured by Wal-Mart employees.

In an incident of similar kind, Jeson Page, a 41 years old shopper at Wal-Mart Center at Viera in Florida, was bitten by an 18″ long poisonous pygmy rattlesnake in April 2007, while he was shopping for some house plants.
