“We cannot stand by and watch the poor, the small traders suffer while Mukesh Ambani and Wal-Mart sell salt and oil.”– Amar Singh, General Secretary, Samajwadi Party.
Amar Singh, Samajwadi Party’s General Secretary, who played a crucial role in the UPA’s recent victory of Trust Vote, was in Kolkata on Thursday to garner support of firebrand chief of Trinamool Congress Mamata Banerjee.
Apart from carrying Mamta’s message demanding repeal of Special Economic Zone Act to Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan singh, Amar Singh offered his support to her in her fight against the entry of big corporates in modern retail.
Trinamul Congress is organising a protest rally on 1st September, 2008 in Kolkata to protest against the Left ruled West Bengal government’s stand to allow big corporates to enter the retail trade.
Amar Singh has assured Mamta to participate in the TMC’s rally against modern retail, saying ”I will be by her side. And I will try to bring Mulayam Singhji. We cannot stand by and watch the poor, the small traders suffer while Mukesh Ambani and Wal-Mart sell salt and oil.”

The politicians really need to understand the impact of organised retail entering India. They can see salt and oil but not the development in terms of Tax which will be collected through VAT. Tax evasion is a major problem in India. Consumer expectations are increasing and Value for money has become a right. We want to develop and they want Poor to prevail. The reason is not care but stopping us from growing. If the tax collected from Retail increases from say 5% to 22% then the amount can be used to improve the state of the Poor. Why do we need to stcik to this word Poor. we should plan and eradicate poverty and not look for sympathy. Then let beggers beg…Let poor live without electricity…Let villages remain villages..
I think the politicians should think before they pass a rally..Thanks

Tata left West Bengal because of dirty politicians from political parties who joined hand against development of the state. I am not sure how much money was pumped in by the competitors of TATAs to these political parties, who have cared least for future of the state .For their entertainment and ego they killed future of the state. They deserve lifelong imprisonment so that they are not able to create such nuisance again.
