Subhiksha management issues a rejoinder; attributes salary delays to ‘audit completion’

December 10th, 2008 · 4 Comments

In the interest of objective reporting, we wish to reproduce below a copy of Subhiksha’s reply to a report published earlier by the News Service. The report, among others, had suggested non-payment of salaries to 700 employees working with the retailer across   its 97 stores in Chennai. Yesterday, based on this news report, we had also carried a post on the subject. Hence, we feel obliged to carry the retailer’s reply too the News Service.

A spokesperson of the Subhiksha group has written to the Express group saying:

“We are deeply shocked that the article has been published without any effort to get the facts verified from our side.

We would like to state that several issues have been misrepresented and are factually incorrect. For instance the person called Mithun Banerjee quoted as your source, there has never been such a person in the rolls of the company either in Kolkata or in Chennai. While it is against our policy to specifically comment on employee related issues to the media – [we] would like to point out that the company has in the past and continues to meet all contractual obligations as per norms.

There have been issues related to lapses and pilferage reported in a few stores and consequently salaries of some of the staff from such outlets has been withheld pending audit completion. It appears that your paper has been used by some persons with a vested interest to tarnish our fair name and reputation.”

While, it is entirely possible that the name of the employee mentioned may have been assumed, we have in the meanwhile received a number of comments from different parts of the country from employees claiming to be working for the company, suggesting that the problem is not restricted merely to Chennai. We are carrying some of such comments with a caveat that the same are based on mails received by us and we are not in a position to varify correctness or otherwise of same.

compnay requires to answer the questions like why they are not giving salary to STSL and Non-STSL staff throughoout india the product is being shifted to one store in a city and then in the night assets are going to ware house and staff is said to wait for sometime as they would transfer them to other store and also wait for salary.
    really its cheating naa…
company should clear the scene atleast his employee so that they might not air to rumors.

If the company wants to reopen the stores after January than why even the NON STSL staff not given there salary? And, why close all store at Vadodara?
Its really very bad news that they are not giving salary even to people, who are working here from the start of Subhiksha.

Subhiksha chairman has to answer its employees about their future instead giving big tantrums in media about subhiksha. Think he is like a disaster for entire retail market in India. He is not suitable for chairman of Indian Retail Forum chairman.

No Salaries for all employees since more than 2 months across India.
No answer from the chairman whats happening and what going to happen.
